Professor Honored as “SMART Woman” by the Birmingham Women’s Fund

Cheryl Morgan, Professor of Architecture and Director of the Urban Studio, has been recognized as one of this year’s SMART Women at the inaugural SMART Party, hosted by The Women's Fund of Greater Birmingham, on October 11, 2012 at Workplay in Birmingham. The mission of The Women’s' Fund is to inspire women to use their philanthropic power to create positive social change. Through community support, they have made grants totaling over $1.5 million to assist women experiencing domestic violence, being held victims of sex trafficking, or limited personally by financial illiteracy. This event raised more than $110,000.

Morgan noted that, "[The Women's Fund] are well known as champions for underserved constituencies and especially women and children. It is a real honor to be recognized as a woman who 'makes a difference!'" Morgan also observed that this recognition from The Women’s Fund of Greater Birmingham, "shines a light on Auburn and our work in an especially important way: it gives our students, our small towns and communities, and Auburn, a new forum for spreading the word about our value and contributions to quality of life issues in Birmingham and across the State."
