CADC Faculty and Alumna are Auburn’s 2013 Spirit of Sustainability Award Winners

Charlene Le Bleu receives AU Sustainability Award

Two College of Architecture, Design and Construction faculty members and an architecture alumna received Auburn’s first ever Spirit of Sustainability Awards from Auburn’s Office of Sustainability. Dan Bennett, Professor and Dean Emeritus,  Charlene Le Bleu, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture, and Jacquelyn  Overbey Hart, a 1988 CADC graduate and an architect who chairs the Sustainability Committee at Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, were honored at the awards ceremony on April 16.

This new campus-wide awards program recognized Auburn University students, faculty, staff, and alumni who exemplify the Auburn spirit by demonstrating accomplishments that promote sustainability on campus or in the community at large. Individual and group initiatives in the areas of research, instruction, outreach, operations, and campus and community projects that have had an impact on economic, social, and environmental sustainability were accepted for consideration.

The awards selection committee, comprised of a student, faculty, staff, and an alumnus, chose ten award winners who were recognized at the Spirit of Sustainability Awards ceremony on April 16 on Cater Lawn.  Each recipient’s story is available at:

The awards program was created in part to generate awareness of sustainability initiatives and to acknowledge those who are making significant contributions toward economic, social, and environmental well-being.  The Spirit of Sustainability Awards program is also intended to inspire further innovations, initiatives, and actions toward a flourishing future.

“Sustainability is a high priority for Auburn University, and there are a lot of people affiliated with Auburn who are doing impressive things.  We wanted to make sure those folks are recognized and their work is celebrated,” said Mike Kensler, Director of the Office of Sustainability. “We find their stories of commitment and accomplishment impressive and inspiring.” (from “Auburn University honors sustainability practitioners with the first annual Spirit of Sustainability Awards,Office of Sustainability)
