Architecture Program’s Istanbul Studio

ARCH Istanbul Study Abroad 2012

The Istanbul Studio is quite distinct from other study abroad opportunities.  Students who participate in this program are able to spend an entire semester studying under the expert tutelage of professors from a distinctly different background than the programs that take place in Europe.  The program is based in Turkey at the Istanbul Technical University, one of the oldest and more established Universities in the world.

This program offers Auburn students the opportunity to become immersed in the culture, as well as the exquisite history of the region.  Housed in an apartment within a five-minute walk from the University, participating students also have the opportunity to interact with some of the other schools, distinguished architects, and design practices during their stay in Turkey.  Collaborating with students from vastly different backgrounds, Auburn students are able to learn from the people and the rich environment they are placed in, architecturally, politically, and culturally.  Travel within the country also further exposes the students to the terrific intricacies that exist between dense, metropolitan centers and the many small settlements dispersed throughout the country.

The Istanbul Program commenced in January of 2010 and continues every spring semester. This program continues to advance the study abroad aspiration of providing Auburn students with the wholesome exposure of another culture and country, thus taking a big step in forming them into excellent citizen designers.
