APLA Golden Eagles Return to Campus

Class of 1964 Architecture Graduates Gathered for their Golden Eagle 50th Anniversary. Eight of the thirteen members from the Class of 1964 Bachelor of Architecture graduates returned to campus on Dec.16, 2014 for their Golden Eagle reunion that celebrates the 50th anniversary of their graduation.

The eight alumni from the 1964 Fall Quarter class spent time reminiscing about the countless memories they had with one another inside and outside the classrooms of Biggin Hall at the then School of Architecture and the Fine Arts. The reunion consisted of a lunch at the Auburn Hotel with representatives from the College of Architecture, Design and Construction before they received their Golden Eagle pins and certificates at the Auburn Alumni Center. They then got the chance to see the current School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture as they received a tour of Dudley Hall from David Hinson, School Head.

Some of the graduates are now happily retired, and others are still leading successful careers in their field. The Class of 1964 is not only filled with talent but also consists of multiple successful architects who have given back to their university. Whether it is being a former Dean of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction, having your firm help design and renovate multiple buildings on campus, such as Hargis Hall, or being the one whose firm helped start the rural studio, these Auburn men never forgot where their careers began.

Those who attended their Golden Eagle reunion are listed with their hometowns:

- Edward Burdesaw (Columbus, GA)

- James Coykendall III (Gatlinburg, TN)

- James Garland (Birmingham)

- Allan McGinnis (Niceville, FL)

- Joe McHarg Jr. (Marietta, GA)

- Walter McKee Jr. (Montgomery)

- John Thomas Regan (West Hyannisport, MA)

- Charles (Dan) Woodfin (Muncie, IN)

The other members of the Class of 1964 are Thomas Beckert, Harold Hill, Sonny Newman and Robert Ramsey, who are all deceased, and Philip Fretwell, who was unable to attend the reunion.
